The Truth About Astrology
Let's talk again about the question, "Do you believe the world is going to end?" What exactly do you mean if you ask that anyways?
Because most of the time, when people say "the world is going to end" they mean things like meteors striking the earth, volcanic
eruptions, earthquakes, and stuff that could wipe humans off the planet. So technically, thats not "the world ending." Thats "humans
ending." But for some reason, humans really seem to believe that they ARE the whole world.
Sorry to tell you, but the world won't suddenly shrink out of existence just because you aren't here. The world doesn't need you to exist.
In fact, earth would be a lot better off without you. So you've got the truth completely backwards: You need the earth.
And oh, how our egos hate this one. One thing we will never be able to control in our whole existence.
We've tried desperately to, though. We've invented walls for the sole purpose of keeping out Earth, making a "home" or in other
words, an environment which we have the most control over. We'd tried our best to grow to understand it, not out of love, but out of the
desire to imprison and manipulate it, to gain further control of it. But this plan will never work. The more control we gain, the more
the planet fights us. Despite the way we try to control her, we all know that ultimately, the earth's fate is connected to our own. If we
poison the oxygen Earth breathes, our lungs will also become poisoned. We cannot change the fact that ultimately, Earth is in control of
our destinies. Our lives could easily be taken by Earth, in any number of ways. We could be swallowed by the ocean in a storm, we
could be crushed in an earthquake, every second there is a possibility that we will be destroyed by nature. Yet the earth is also the one
who gives us life. Earth feeds us and gives us water, and it supplies us with oxygen. Although earth can be brutal, it gives us life
more than it brings death. Ultimately, Earth is the one which decides when to give and when to take. Getting something from the earth
also takes giving it attention. The more love you give it, the better the rewards are. Whenever you want food of types or quantities that
Earth doesn't provide, you have to plant a garden and give it the most amount of care as possible. Also, when you want some rare
mineral like gold, you have to spend the appropriate amount of time achieving it.
There are those who say that they don't believe in a God because they have never seen "proof" of one. It's not, it fact, that they haven't
seen proof. Its that they are too ignorant and full of themselves and their own egotistical opinions to see whats right in front of their face.
What do you call an entity that gives us life, can give us death, controls our futures, expects the proper amount of attention and
worship, and keeps things working in their proper order? A god.
In otherwords, our planet Earth.
The Mayans and other ancient cultures were aware of this, although the image of these "gods" manifested themselves in different
ways. They had their gods of the sky, which took in account the god of the earth, the galaxy. And these two gods, the earth and the
universe, were often divided further into gods of specific traits of these. For example, within the galaxy was the sun, which is probably the
most powerful over humans out of all the sky gods. Because if the sun were to dissappear, the earth's orbit would be broken, it would have
no sunlight which is its life source, and it would essentially be destroyed. And if Earth is destroyed, we automatically are destroyed. There
were also forces on earth divided this way: gods of the sea, storm gods, etc.
Except there was a problem. Humans couldn't understand everything about these gods. In reality, for example, no matter who you are,
there is always something that is on earth which you don't know about. So, how would you explain the god, Earth, to someone who knows
even less than you do, like a child?
You would have to make it something all humans can understand. And what can humans understand better than another human? So
that is how they related it to them. They took these gods of nature, and personified them. Made them human. They gave them bodies similar
to humans, human thoughts, human desires and emotions such as anger, jealousy, and greed. We still know some of these entities by their
Roman personified identities, such as the planet Venus, the Roman goddess of love, Mars, the Roman god of war, and Saturn, the god of
agriculture.
It may seem like lying to us for someone to directly create a character who others believe are real. But if you consider it a lie, you would
have to consider the whole human language a lie. Language is just a way to take an abstract, real concept and make it something
understandable to other people. If I say the word "pelican" you will know what I'm talking about, picture it in your head, but the word pelican
isn't a pelican. Even though you are picturing it, there isn't a pelican existing right in front of you.
So names, as a result of human language, are also just a cultural approximation, and don't really mean things as a whole. That is why
the Romans accepted Aphrodite, the greek goddess of love, and Venus, the roman goddess of love, as being the same. Because, basically,
they were. The only difference was what they called them.
In the same way, the word "god" is a human invention. I've been calling the earth a "god" because according to definition (giving life,
giving death, controlling the future and needing attention in order to recieve rewards) earth IS a god. However, I don't preform any sort of
symbolic rituals or acknowledge the earth's power over my life in any way on a normal basis. So even though earth is a "god", earth isn't
really MY god. If you don't hold something in high esteem, it isn't really a god to you.
So, I'm definitely not saying that you should convert to one of these religions. But many of the old nature-worshipping religions did
respect and admire nature, so to understand these people, specifically the Mayans, we need to understand where their view is coming from.
Just because a god isn't our god, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist as one.
The reason I have been talking about this is because often astrology involves what we consider religious beliefs. Some people think that the Mayan prophecies are completely a religious belief. And while it does involve some religious beliefs, their religious beliefs arent neccessarily inferior to modern ones. Now we'll talk about what the Mayans actually believe about 2012.
